FINISHING

Break yarn. Thread tail through rem sts, pull tight to gather, and fasten off inside.

With yarn threaded on a tapestry needle, sew side and base seam using mattress stitch, or backstitch if preferred (see Glossary).

PURSE LINING

Cut a circle 6¾" (17 cm) in diameter from the lining fabric for the base. Iron interfacing to WS of fabric to stiffen, trimming interfacing if necessary.

Cut a length of fabric 21" (53.5 cm) long and 10" (25.5 cm) wide. Fold it in half with RS tog. With thread and sewing needle, backstitch side edge, leaving a ½" (1.3 cm) seam allowance. With RS tog, sew circular base to lining.

With WS of lining held against WS of purse, slip lining inside purse. Turn under ½" (1.3 cm) seam allowance at top of lining, pinning into place just below eyelet row. Whipstitch lining to purse.

With white, make 2 twisted cords, each about 24" (61 cm) long (see Glossary).

Beg at opposite sides of purse, thread cords in and out of eyelet holes around top of purse. Knot ends, leaving long lengths as tassels.
